EPT Sochi 2021: Notable Wins and Player Insights
The EPT Sochi series began on March 19 with a National tournament that had a buy-in of 1,100 USD. Over three starting days, players made 559 entries. Egor Turubanov emerged as the winner, sharing the top-3 spot with Anton Smirnov and Vyacheslav Balaev. The final table lasted around 7 hours, with more than half of the playing time dedicated to 3-max and head-up play.
Yuri Gruzdev won the Omaha tournament, sharing the top spot with Vadim Gabriel. Artem Vozianov secured the first place in the bounty tournament with a buy-in of 330 USD.
Sergey Chantsov, who has been less frequent in Sochi recently, discussed the challenges of cash game management and his return to MTTs. He mentioned that COVID-19 restrictions and high living costs had limited his travel. Konstantin Bilyauer, a notable player from the late 2000s, returned to the EPT after a long break. He placed 59th in the National tournament and 20th in the deepstack tournament. Bilyauer shared insights into his poker journey, highlighting the demanding atmosphere and lack of perspective that led him to stop playing frequently.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
