December 2014 Poker News: Highlights and Tournament Wins

December 2014 was a month filled with exciting poker news and events. One of the highlights was the release of 27 hours of cash game footage featuring Viktor Blum, available on YouTube with open cards. This extensive footage, part of the Golden Cash Game series, offers a rare glimpse into high-stakes poker action with blinds set at 5-10 pounds sterling. Notable participants included Neil Chennig, Teddy Sheringham, Lars Bonding, Matt Frankland, and George Boateng.

Liv Boori shared her reflections on the year, emphasizing her numerous late-stage tournament runs and the creation of the REG charity fund. Despite not achieving significant wins at the poker table, Liv considered the year one of the best in her life. She highlighted her consistent progress and the importance of her charitable work.

Martin Jacobson, the new World Champion, opened up about his journey. Before the EPT Budapest 2008 tournament, he planned to move to Barcelona and work as a chef. However, his third-place finish changed his plans. He also discussed his psychological preparation for the Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2014 and his training for the November Nine, which included the support of many friends from the poker community. Additionally, Jennifer Shahade, known as the 'pusher of intellectual games,' shared her thoughts in a series of videos. She discussed her background in chess, her achievements in poker, and the parallels between the two games. Jennifer's father is a FIDE master, and her brother is an international master. At the age of 12, she played at the fourth rank and later became a women's grandmaster and a two-time champion of the USA. Her videos also touched on the advantages and disadvantages of women in chess and poker, and she recalled the times when her knowledge of pushbot, gained from her brother, gave her a significant edge in poker tournaments. She also mentioned her recent win in a major offline tournament of Open Face Chinese Poker (OFC).

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
