Poker Pro Darren Elias' Home Robbed; Anatoly Filatov's Second Place Finish
In a shocking turn of events, professional poker player Darren Elias became the victim of a home robbery. Shannon Sorkin, a lesser-known poker player, targeted Elias' residence in New Jersey, where he held a two-year-old child and a nineteen-year-old nanny at gunpoint. Sorkin forced the nanny to reveal the location of Elias' valuables and locked her in the bathroom. Fortunately, the nanny escaped through a window and called 911, leading to Sorkin's arrest the following day. Sorkin faces charges of armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
Elias, a four-time WPT Main Tour champion with over $7 million in offline earnings, had recently won $473,280 for third place in the WPT LAPC main event. This high-profile robbery adds to a list of similar incidents involving poker players, including Jonathan Duhamel, who was assaulted and robbed, and Theo Jorgensen, who was shot in the leg during a home invasion.
In other poker news, Anatoly Filatov secured second place in the partypoker MILLIONS high roller tournament at Rio. Filatov, known as 'nl_profit,' had a strong start but faced challenges in the later stages. He expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting that the tournament's structure was unfamiliar to him. Despite the setback, Filatov remains optimistic about his future in high-stakes poker.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
