Recreational Poker Player Wins $1 Million Bounty at WSOP
Andrew Shelton, a recreational poker player from Connecticut, won a $1,000,000 bounty at the 2026 World Series of Poker. This win increased his lifetime poker earnings by 50 times. Shelton had just been eliminated from the tournament deep into day 2, finishing 102nd for $3,350. However, he had a golden ticket in his possession, in the form of a bounty prize that he hadn’t yet cashed in. He had a 1-in-8 chance of the $1 million top bounty prize.
Shelton's biggest career cash, worth $11,150, came in 2022, when he finished 85th in the World Poker Tour Venetian championship event.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
