PKO / Progressive Bounty Tournaments Explained

In progressive knockout (PKO) events, part of each eliminated player’s bounty is paid to the knocker and part is added to the knocker’s own bounty. That changes risk/reward vs classic MTT — see MTT basics.
Why PKO feels different
- Busting someone can be worth more than a small ladder pay jump
- Covering stacks become valuable “hunters”
- Short stacks with big bounties draw action
Simple heuristics
- Early: still build a stack; do not overpay for tiny bounties.
- Middle: call wider when covered and bounty is meaningful vs pot odds.
- Late: ICM still matters near big pay jumps — bounty ≠ ignore payouts.
Who should play PKO
Players who already understand tournament survival and want more action. Compare formats in cash vs tournaments. Find PKO schedules via the 2026 hub.
FAQ
PKO vs classic MTT?
PKO adds bounty EV — more action and different call ranges, but payout ICM still exists late.
Should I always hunt bounties?
No. Early tiny bounties are not worth stacking off light. Size vs pot odds matters.
Harder for beginners?
Slightly — learn classic MTT first (MTT basics), then add bounty maths.
