Alex Jacob's Jeopardy Winning Streak and Controversial Strategy
Alex Jacob, a former poker professional turned trader, made headlines with his impressive run on the popular game show Jeopardy. Jacob won six consecutive games, earning a total of $149,802. This feat placed him at the 15th position in the show's history for the most consecutive wins.
Jacob's strategy on the show was both effective and controversial. He employed a tactic developed by Chuck Forrest in 1984, which involved switching between categories and choosing the most expensive questions. This approach not only confused his opponents but also increased his chances of finding Daily Double squares, which are often hidden in the more expensive categories.
However, Jacob's strategy also included slowing down the game to reduce his opponents' chances. He would take his time answering questions and even stretched out the names of categories, a move that was within the rules but drew criticism from viewers. Many found his behavior annoying and unsportsmanlike, leading to a barrage of negative comments on social media. Despite the criticism, Jacob's strategy was effective, and he managed to win six games in a row. His seventh game, however, ended in defeat when he incorrectly answered the final question about Instagram.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
