The Legendary 1949 Poker Match Between Nick 'The Greek' and Johnny Moss
The legendary poker heads-up match between Nick 'The Greek' Dandolos and Johnny Moss took place in 1949. The match was organized by Benny Binion, who had moved to Las Vegas from Texas in 1946.
Nick Dandolos was known for his flamboyant style and was considered one of the best poker players of his time. Johnny Moss, a legendary poker player from Texas, was known for his skills and travels in search of high-stakes games. The match lasted for several months, with sessions lasting 4-5 days at a time.
Benny Binion insisted on making the match public to attract more visitors to his casino. The match took place in the Flamingo casino, not the Horseshoe as previously believed. Johnny Moss won the match, but later left Las Vegas with significant debts due to his love for craps.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
