WSOP Main Event: Strategies for Early and Late Stages
Raul Mestre analyzes the characteristics of the Main Event of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and shares his strategy for playing in the early and late stages of the tournament. The Main Event of the WSOP has an extremely slow structure, deep stacks, and a large number of participants, many of whom are amateurs.
The cost of confrontation in the early stages of the Main Event is low, but many players act as if it is high. The author plans to play loose/aggressive in the early stages, avoiding risky situations but taking chances in small pots.
As the tournament approaches the final stages, with fewer than 100 players remaining, the cost of confrontation increases significantly. The author intends to adjust their strategy in the final stages, being cautious and avoiding high-risk situations.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
