WSOP 2026: New Rules Spark Controversy Among Poker Players
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has introduced strict new rules regarding sponsorship stickers and player behavior, sparking controversy among players. The new rules, introduced by the WSOP's new owners, GGPoker, allow organizers to punish participants for any behavior deemed 'not in accordance with the official rules or interests of WSOP'.
Players can lose all their prize money if it is discovered that they received money from a third party based on the results of a WSOP tournament. All disputes will be resolved 'at the discretion of WSOP'. There will be stricter control over sponsorship stickers, and permission for any patch must be obtained in advance.
Bernhard Binder was forced to remove a CoinPoker sticker on the final table of WSOP Paradise for $25k. PhenomPoker CEO Matthew Valeo and CoinPoker ambassador Patrick Leonard were denied permission to wear sponsorship stickers. ACR and BetMGM representatives received permission to wear sponsorship stickers. CoinPoker sends many players to WSOP through freerolls and promotions. Phil Nagle, CEO of ACR, expressed his views on the new rules and the controversy surrounding them.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
