World Poker Tour Main Event Smashes Entry Records in Hollywood
The World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown 2021 made history by setting a new record for the biggest-ever WPT Main Event with 2,482 entries, almost 700 more than the previous best. The $3,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament saw its $2 million guarantee exceed by a total prizepool of $7,942,400 by the end of the 2nd and final starting flight.
The previous biggest WPT Main Event was in 2014, with 1,795 entries, also at the Seminole Hard Rock. This week’s effort even broke the venue’s own record, the 2013 SHRPO $10 million GTD event. The top prize for the 2021 WPT Main Event is $1,261,095.
Players still in the mix for the top prize include Michael Wang, Sam Panzica and Tony Dunst. Those not quite so fortunate included star names such as Kristen Bicknell, Vanessa Kade, and Kathy Liebert, all falling short of the money on day two.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
