Will .com and .es Poker Rooms Coexist for the Next Two Weeks?
The DGOJ published a Clarifying Note on the Gaming Law on May 31, 2024, causing alarm among online operators. The note prohibits the use of .com customer databases for .es operations, leading operators to consult with lawyers to understand the implications.
Licenses for online gaming were granted on May 31, 2024, and the enforcement of the sanctioning regime was postponed to June 15, 2024. This delay created a two-week period of uncertainty, during which some operators considered not activating their .es domains until regulatory intentions were clarified. The .es domains were scheduled to activate on June 5, 2024, but the Clarifying Note created uncertainty about the coexistence of .com and .es poker rooms.
Operators are unsure about the migration process from .com to .es, as the Clarifying Note explicitly states that .com data cannot be used for .es migrations. This has led to speculation about whether .com and .es poker rooms will coexist during the transitional period.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
