When Will Americans Return to Online Poker?
The future of online poker in the United States is shrouded in uncertainty, with various scenarios playing out. There is no connection between the accusations against PokerStars, Full Tilt, and AP/UB and attempts to legalize online poker in the USA.
Senator Harry Reid's Bill
Senator Harry Reid is expected to introduce a federal bill on online poker by the end of the 2012 session. If his bill passes, it will take at least three more years before online poker is legal again in the USA. This is due to the bureaucratic procedures and the need to issue necessary licenses.
State-level Legalization
Several states are taking steps towards legalizing online poker. Online poker is already legal in the District of Columbia. Iowa is conducting a study on the legalization of online poker. Nevada, California, and New Jersey are also active in this area. If several states pass online poker legalization laws this year, it could push the federal government to act faster. However, even in this scenario, legalization could take up to two more years.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
