WCOOP 2015 Concludes with Surprising Wins and Close Calls

The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) 2015 tournament series has concluded, marking a significant event in the online poker community. The series featured a variety of tournaments and saw some surprising outcomes.

A 36-year-old hobbyist poker player from Belgium, Coenaldinho7, won the main event of WCOOP 2015. Coenaldinho7's girlfriend, the mother of his 5-month-old child, was asleep during the final table. Coenaldinho7 sent an email to his girlfriend with the result and the sum of the win, $1,300,000. Coenaldinho7 mentioned in an interview with the blog PS his desire to leave his job as the head of the transport department and play more tournaments.

Russian players also had a strong showing. Alexander Kostritsin finished 8th in the main event, winning a modest sum for his limits. Vasily Tsapko finished 5th in the main event, winning $400,000, most of which will go to his investors. Jens Lakemeyer led the overall standings a few days before the end of the championship but failed to score any points in the final stretch, dropping to third place. Shon Deeb won the overall standings with 18 finishes in the money, two more than Vladimir Troyanovsky. Dmitry Urbanovich finished second among Russian players, and Maicoshaa finished third. Andrey Novak from Odessa finished second in tournament #53 – SuperTuesday with a buy-in of $2,100, winning $309,744. Dennis 'aDrENalin710' Strebkov won tournament #59 in Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo on short tables, his second WCOOP bracelet. Maicoshaa won tournament #66, a prestigious HORSE championship with a buy-in of $2,100. Krakukra won tournament #68, an 8-game championship with a high roller buy-in of $10,300. Kyle Julius won tournament #63, a Limit Hold'em championship with a buy-in of $1,050. Russian players took first place in the number of wins – eight, one more than Canada. The guarantee of the prize fund in the main tournament was not exceeded. The collected rake exceeded $25,000, which had to be added to the prize fund.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
