The Venetian Las Vegas Fined $7.2 Million for Mathew Bowyer Gambling Scandal
The Nevada Gaming Commission fined The Venetian Las Vegas $7.2 million for failing to stop Mathew Bowyer from gambling from 2019 to 2021. The Venetian is operated by Global Management, which purchased the resort from Las Vegas Sands in 2022.
The fine comes after a series of similar penalties imposed on other major Las Vegas casinos, including Caesars Entertainment, Wynn, Resorts World, and MGM Resorts, all related to Mathew Bowyer. The total amount paid out by Las Vegas casinos for accepting Bowyer’s bets now stands at almost $40 million.
The Venetian is the lone major Strip operator that had gone unscathed from gaming regulators until now. The Nevada Gaming Commission alleged that Mathew Bowyer ran “unsuitable” activities in Las Vegas casinos, making “cash front” deposits involving millions of dollars.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
