Upswing Poker's Top 7 Tips for Improving Your MTT Game
Upswing Poker coaches Mike Brady and Gary Blackwood host a GTO podcast on the Upswing Poker channel. In a recent episode, Mike Brady discussed an article by Miikki Anttonen with tips for MTT players.
One of the key strategies highlighted is the importance of raising frequently but not excessively. In a game with an ante, a 2.25 BB raise should win the blinds less than half the time to be profitable. This strategy is supported by mathematics and has been a staple for regular MTT players.
For example, with a stack depth of 100 BB and blinds at 200/400, a raise of 900 from the button should win the bank 47.8% of the time to be profitable. If the players on the blinds are tight, they often won't resist in the necessary 52.2% of cases. Even if they do, post-flop victories are common. A solver in stacks of 100 BB raises from the button with a sizing of 2.8 BB for 53.7% of the range, including hands like T7o, 97o, K5o, and 53s.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
