UK Gaming Sector Adopts AI for Age Verification to Combat Underage Gambling

The UK's gaming industry is on the brink of a significant technological upgrade with the introduction of AI-generated age verification systems. This innovation is set to revolutionize the way age is verified in gaming environments, ensuring that underage individuals are prevented from accessing gambling activities.

Regal Gaming Technologies, a prominent player in the UK gaming sector, is rolling out new machines equipped with Yoti’s cutting-edge AI-generated software. This software is designed to estimate a person's age with remarkable accuracy, particularly for those aged between 13 and 19, where it claims to be accurate to within 18 months. The system's camera is also 99.65% accurate in determining if someone is under 23, all without the need for cross-checking with databases.

Yoti's facial age estimation process is straightforward: a photo is taken by an in-built camera, and the connected software estimates the age. This method is described as a privacy-preserving solution that doesn't require any personal details or ID documents. All images are instantly deleted once the age is estimated. Additionally, individuals can use the free Yoti app to scan a QR code on the gaming machine and share a verified ‘over 18’ attribute, adding another layer of convenience and security.
