UK Gambling Commission Tightens Online Gaming Rules to Protect Vulnerable Players

The UK Gambling Commission has conducted a review into the 2005 Gambling Act with a view to protecting the most vulnerable. The regulatory organisation aims to make online gaming safer in conjunction with the providers, ultimately preventing predatory behaviour.

New rules published on Tuesday include a minimum 2.5 seconds between spins, a ban on the autoplay feature, and clear visibility of session wins/losses. The UK Gambling Commission disclosed data that showed slot machine play accounts for as much as 70% of all online gambling activity in the UK.

Kindred Group, owner of Unibet, have vowed to cut out all revenue from gambling addicts by 2023. The World Poker Tour has partnered with Poker King to target Asian mobile gamers during the WPT Spring Festival, running until February 22. Poker King said they currently have 1.2 million customers registered with them.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
