Twitch's New Gambling Ban: Streamers Find Creative Workarounds

Twitch has implemented a ban on unregulated gambling, but some streamers have already found ways to circumvent the new rules. The ban follows a scandal involving streamer Abraham Jehad “Sliker” Mohammed, who admitted to soliciting over $300,000 in donations to feed his gambling habit.

Top streamers including Imane 'Pokimane' Anys, Matthew 'Mizkif' Rinaudo, and Devin Nash demanded stronger gambling rules from Twitch. The group threatened an organized strike during the Christmas period, leading Twitch to update its rules to include a ban on specific unregulated gambling sites and associated domains. These sites include stake.com, rollbit.com, duelbits.com, and roobet.com. Streamers can no longer share links or affiliate codes to these sites and all affiliated domains.

Tyler ‘Trainwreck’ Niknam, who earned $360 million in 16 months from a sponsor who is now banned from Twitch, criticized the ban. German Twitch streamer Scurrows suggested a workaround for streamers to avoid the new gambling rules by not showing the exact site they are playing on. This workaround involves not displaying the casino's name or URL, making it unclear which site the streamer is using.
