Top 5 Biggest Poker Mistakes in EPT Barcelona Tournaments
Poker tournaments are always filled with drama, and the EPT Barcelona events are no exception. Here are some of the biggest mistakes that left a lasting impact on the players and spectators alike.
Giuseppe Pantaleo's Fold
In the 2010 EPT Barcelona main event, Giuseppe Pantaleo and Jesús Cortés Lizaño both had J-high hands. Giuseppe raised to 790,000, but Jesús called almost instantly. This surprised the commentators, who expected Jesús to fold. Giuseppe then folded his hand, much to the amusement of his neighbor Shander De Vres.
Jesús Cortés Lizaño's Honesty
Jesús Cortés Lizaño showed remarkable honesty when he noticed an error in the chip count. He immediately reported it to the dealer, leading to a lengthy investigation. The issue was resolved, and the game continued smoothly.
Niall Farrell's Risky Call
In the 2014 EPT Barcelona main event, Niall Farrell called a bet on the flop with A-high, despite having no outs. His opponent, Ben Lamprecht, had a higher set. Niall made a winning call on the river, securing a small stack. However, his risky play ultimately led to his early exit from the tournament.
Martin Jacobson's Aggressive Bets
Martin Jacobson made a series of aggressive bets with A-high and 7-high in the 2014 EPT Barcelona Super High Roller event. His opponent, Dan Colman, had a set of fours and called all of Martin's bets. Martin was eliminated from the tournament, but he learned valuable lessons from this experience and went on to win the main event of the World Series a few months later.
Nikolai Pobal's Penalty Round
Nikolai Pobal remained in the top 3 against Ilari Sahamies and Joni Jukkainen, who were not fully sober. In one hand, Joni checked with a top pair on the river, and Nikolai, who had a straight flush, also checked. The situation was resolved with a penalty round, and Nikolai returned to the game with renewed vigor, ultimately winning €1,007,550.
Jennifer Tilly's Full House Win
Jennifer Tilly won a hand against Patrick with a full house. Patrick was surprised and amused by her win, and the entire table was in disbelief. Jennifer's win was a memorable moment in the Poker After Dark show.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
