Stephen Chidwick Crowned Poker's Player of the Decade

Stephen Chidwick has been crowned the top tournament player of the decade with an impressive 58,524 points, 32 titles, 183 final tables, and earnings of $57,688,760.

Chidwick's consistency is unmatched, with an average finishing spot of just shy of 11th place over the past 10 seasons. He has made 13 or more final-table appearances every year of this decade, with an average total of more than 18 and a personal decade-best performance of 26 in 2018. His two down seasons in that stretch? A 15th-place finish in 2021 and a 23rd-place showing in 2020, both years that saw the live tournament scene impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alex Foxen is the second player to accumulate over 50,000 POY points with 56,678 points, 26 titles, 164 final tables, and $45,246,491 in earnings. Adrian Mateos won the POY award in 2017 and 2024, with 45,307 points, 19 titles, 124 final tables, and $45,435,454 in earnings.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
