Online Poker Rooms in Spain Brace for Regulatory Changes
The process of granting licenses for online poker in Spain is expected to conclude this year or be extended by three months. This regulatory shift is causing significant uncertainty among poker rooms and operators, who have been largely unresponsive to community concerns. Despite repeated attempts to gather official statements, many rooms have only offered vague responses, such as 'we are working on it.'
bwin.party and PokerStars are the only two companies prepared to operate from the first day post-regulation. These giants have navigated similar processes in France and Italy and have been actively involved in Spain's regulatory efforts. Their preparedness ensures they will be key players in the post-regulation environment.
888 has applied for a license but has not confirmed if it will be operational from the first day. Known for its unique product offerings, 888's success in Spain will depend on its ability to provide sufficient liquidity. GTECH G2, or Boss Media, has secured deals with major Spanish casinos and is expected to be the third most liquid network. This network includes well-known rooms like MiApuesta and Poker Heaven, with a potential launch date as early as January 1st, according to Poker Heaven.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
