Simon Wiciak Wins EPT Barcelona Main Event with Hero Call
Simon Wiciak has won the EPT Barcelona Main Event, securing €1,134,375 after a dominant performance. Wiciak was the chip leader for the final three days of the tournament, outlasting a field of 2,120 players. Wiciak had previously cashed in the EPT Monte Carlo and the 2022 WSOP Main Event, and had four WSOP cashes in the summer of 2023, including the Main Event.
Wiciak was offered a deal during three-handed play, guaranteeing him a seven-figure score. He then fought with João Sydenstricker and Carl Shaw for the remaining €108,975 and the title. The heads-up battle wasn’t particularly long, and ended with a fantastic hero call from the Frenchman.
Sydenstricker shoved all in on a river that paired the board in a three-bet pot and Wiciak found the call with a great read, both with betting patterns and even the fact that Sydenstricker didn’t pull his hood up as he normally does, feigning strength.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
