Sam Soverel Claims 16th PokerGO Tour Title in Thrilling PLO Event

Sam Soverel won the $5,000 buy-in pot-limit Omaha event, securing the $122,850 top prize and his record-extending 16th PGT title. This win improved Soverel’s career earnings to more than $33.5 million. He now has a three-win lead over second-ranked Alex Foxen on the tour’s title leaderboard.

Soverel is currently ranked 36th on poker’s all-time money list, and is one of just 44 players to have accrued over $30 million in recorded cashes. In addition to the hardware and the money, Soverel also scored 184 PGT points and 432 Card Player Player of the Year points. He’s climbed into the top 20 in the PGT points race standings and the top 200 on the POY leaderboard, which is presented by CoinPoker.

The top 13 finishers made the money, with 2025 Super High Roller Bowl PLO champion John Riordan busting on the bubble. Heavy hitters like seven-time bracelet winner Josh Arieh (12th), Mike Zulker (10th), and recent $200,000 Triton Invitational Jeju II champion Joao Simao (8th) soon joined him on the rail. Three-time bracelet winner Michael Wang (7th – $18,200) and high-stakes regular Sean Winter (6th – $22,750) busted after the field combined under the bright lights of the main stage. John Dapkus then sent both Ariel Mantel (5th – $31,850) and James Chen (4th – $40,950) packing to narrow the field to three. Despite that surge, he soon began to fall behind Soverel and Jonas Kronwitter during short-handed play. Dapkus (3rd – $56,875) was ultimately eliminated by Soverel, who took 6,125,000 into heads-up play against Kronwitter. The final hand of the tournament saw the chips get in after a flop of 10♥7♥3♣. Kronwitter held A♥8♥6♣3♥ for a pair with flush and straight draws. Soverel revealed the A♦A♣5♦2♣. The 5♠ turn and 7♣ river kept Soverel’s pocket aces best to bring the clash to a close. Kronwitter earned $79,625 as the runner-up. The Austrian now has nearly $3.9 million in lifetime tournament cashes.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
