Sam Greenwood's Poker Wins and Strategy Advice

Sam Greenwood had a successful run on the PokerStars High Rollers series, winning two tournaments with a buy-in of $10,300 each. This achievement comes after a series of events where Greenwood provided valuable poker strategy advice to players who were stuck at home due to self-isolation.

Greenwood offered his expertise to various players, including Daniel Straylitz, who sought advice on a hand from the final table of a recent WPT tournament. Straylitz opened with 80,000 on UTG, and Scott Hempel called on the BB. On the flop, Hempel checked and called 100,000. Both players checked on the turn. On the river, Straylitz bet 175,000, and his opponent responded with a check-raise to 1,600,000. Straylitz, who had 600,000 left, folded.

Greenwood also advised Nick Guagenti on a hand from an online super-turbo 4-max tournament. Guagenti had a stack of 9bb and faced a push from a competent regular on the SB. Greenwood suggested that a call was necessary, considering the payouts. Additionally, Nick Marchington asked for a comment on a hand against Lena900, where Greenwood recommended a 3-bet preflop and suggested folding on the river after a large bet on the flop. Ryan Van Sande sought advice on a hand from a live tournament, where Greenwood noted that the opponent's push on the river seemed meaningless. Josh Gordon asked about a hand from a live tournament, and Greenwood advised folding to a large bet on the flop and pushing on the turn. Tuomo Niskanen consulted Greenwood on a hand from a live tournament, where Greenwood suggested folding to an all-in on the river. Drew Soik asked about a hand from a live tournament, where Greenwood noted that an overbet of 12bb was a poor play. Paul Mattioda sought advice on a hand from a $1,000 tournament on ACR, and Greenwood recommended going all-in. Jason Gross asked about a hand from a $1/$2 NL cash game, and Greenwood advised not folding a middle set on the flop. Nicholas Maidani consulted Greenwood on a hand from an online tournament, where Greenwood suggested calling with 66+. Da Brain Poker asked about a hand from an online tournament, and Greenwood noted that a 3-bet preflop was theoretically poor. Dylan Horthin sought advice on a hand from the final table of the WCOOP main event, and Greenwood recommended pushing 12bb and calling a push from Faraz Jaka. Matty S asked about a hand from a $2,600 tournament on ACR, and Greenwood suggested pushing or setting a smaller bet and folding if both opponents call. Bobby James consulted Greenwood on a hand from a live tournament, where Greenwood advised checking and calling on the flop and checking on the turn. James Hundt asked about a hand from a $1,600 tournament at the Wynn, where Greenwood noted that checking on the flop was a good play.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
