PokerStars Faces Backlash Over VIP Program Changes
PokerStars is facing significant backlash from its VIP players following unexpected changes to their rewards program. The new defense line of VIP reforms was outlined by Daniel Negreanu, the director of public relations Lee Jones, and his deputy Eric Hollreiser. Daniel Negreanu posted on 2+2 forum about the changes in the VIP program.
Lee Jones, in a 10-minute PokerNews interview, mentioned the word “ecosystem” seven times, assuring viewers that the three-day strike by disgruntled players did not affect the room's profit but notably improved the ecosystem. Eric Hollreiser, in the corporate blog, mentioned that the rakeback for grinders will be lowered even more in 2017, stating that the current reduction is a compromise measure.
Justin Bonomo was particularly vocal about the changes, stating that they are akin to theft and fraud. He highlighted that players who worked hard to achieve Supernova status in 2015, expecting bonuses in 2016, were left disappointed. Mike Schneid, a prominent figure in the poker community, expressed his concerns about PokerStars' integrity, questioning whether the company might manipulate their random number generator. He stated that PokerStars' reputation is shattered and that the company's actions raise serious ethical questions.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
