PokerStars Drops Unpopular Games, Partypoker Hosts WPT500

PokerStars has made significant changes to its game offerings by removing several less popular games from its lobby. The changes include the elimination of full-ring CAP tables, heads-up Omaha Hi-Lo, and heads-up Pot-Limit Omaha. Additionally, heads-up SnG for Omaha and Omaha8 have been removed, leaving players with fewer options for these specific formats.

One of the more interesting experiments by PokerStars was the introduction of Showtime Omaha, a format where discarded cards are visible to all players. This unique twist on the traditional game was designed to add an element of predictability. However, it only lasted in the lobby for less than two months before being discontinued.

Meanwhile, Partypoker is hosting the WPT500 tournament series, featuring 27 tournaments with a total prize pool of $4,000,000. The series includes a variety of tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $55 to $3,200, and real player names will be displayed at the tables instead of usernames. The main events, with a buy-in of $530, will have both regular and knockout formats, with final tables scheduled for March 16 and 23.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
