Poker Pros Share Old Strategies That Used to Work
Poker players have shared their old exploitative strategies that were profitable before Game Theory Optimal (GTO) became popular. Dan Smith started a Twitter flashmob asking players to share their old strategies.
Dan Smith used to bluff on the river if he faced strong opponents and they bet two banks. Alexander Petersen used to bet 1.5 banks on any turn almost always winning the pot in 90%+ cases in tournaments from 2008-2014.
Daniel Weinman played about 3 million hands at long tables NL $0.5/$1 from 2009 to 2011, and if he was on the flop with a regular, he was almost always all-in by the river. Shaun LeFort played HUPLO from 2013 to 2017, creating strange and obvious but not terrible play in the first 20 minutes of the match against regulars on unpopular sites.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
