Poker Pros Reflect on 2013: Highs, Lows, and Marathon Runs
Four prominent poker players—Mikhail Shalamov, Mikhail Semin, Andrey Pateichuk, and Roman Romanovsky—reflected on their 2013 poker experiences, offering insights into their highs, lows, and memorable moments.
Mikhail Shalamov rated his 2013 poker year as 5 out of 10 due to difficulties with variance. Despite the challenges, he managed to accumulate 5 million lifetime VPP on PokerStars. One of Shalamov's notable non-poker achievements was running a marathon in New York in November 2013.
Mikhail Semin had a more positive outlook on his year, rating it 7 out of 10. He highlighted his journalistic work, including his involvement in FTP PRO Battle, and his online poker results. Semin played 2,317 online tournaments and 1,000 hours of cash games, with his biggest win being 148k from two deals in Warm Up and FTOPS 320.
Andrey Pateichuk rated his year as 5.6 out of 10, noting a strong post-WSOP online poker performance. However, he did not win any Sunday Million tournaments. Roman Romanovsky had a standout year, rating it 8.68 out of 10. His significant poker moment was the purchase of Gunnar glasses, while a notable non-poker event was his sister's wedding.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
