From Warsaw to the Bahamas: A Poker Player's Wild Ride

After returning from Warsaw, I was in a pre-infarction state due to an incident with Helena. My financial situation was dire, with barely any bankroll left, making overseas trips seem impossible. However, just a couple of days later, I found myself booking tickets to the Bahamas for the RSAPokerStars. The magazine Pokerisivut had long planned a special issue dedicated to Zygmund, whose biography was largely unknown to the public due to his reluctance to give interviews.

Pokerisivut had a good relationship with Zygmund, and they managed to secure an exclusive interview with him. However, Zygmund, when sober, was very shy around strangers, so they needed a journalist he trusted. That journalist was me, a poker player and a good acquaintance of Zygmund, whose work he highly approved of. I had never written a large article before, so we decided I should practice by writing a 12-page piece on Johnny Lodden, who was also heading to the Bahamas.

Before departing for the Bahamas, I wanted to share some of the events that happened in my life in December after returning from Warsaw. I managed to turn a 5 euro deposit into a five-figure sum, though much of it was spent on parties. I bought my girlfriend, Helena, a puppy named Frieda. We both come from broken families, love socializing, and have a shared passion for travel and discovery. Above all, we both adore dogs. Unlike babies, which I find annoying with their mess and noise, dogs bring me immense joy. I even got robbed once while feeding a stray dog with a sausage.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
