Poker Pros Share Their Strategies for Improving Gameplay

Poker players constantly seek ways to improve their game, and three professionals—EmilyKash, zgirovsky, and xxSTEPANxx—share their unique approaches.

EmilyKash's Logical Approach

EmilyKash uses a logical approach to analyze hands and textures on the flop to build betting ranges. She finds it difficult to apply new knowledge in games and often uses sticky notes to remember new moves. In one analyzed hand, she received a small raise on the flop and decided to call because her hand was within the defending range. On the turn, she checked because the opponent's range likely included strong hands or bluffs with little equity against her. On the river, she called because she believed the opponent would fold with weaker hands.

zgirovsky's Solver-Focused Strategy

zgirovsky focuses on understanding optimal strategies in key spots using a solver. He found Kanu7's course helpful in interpreting solver decisions in key spots. He keeps a record of his study sessions in Google Docs to track his progress and maintain focus.

xxSTEPANxx's Daily Study Routine

xxSTEPANxx uses InstaGTO to analyze hands and identify major mistakes and complex situations. He noted that missing an obligatory bluff on the river with A2s was a significant mistake. xxSTEPANxx aims to study poker daily, spending at least an hour each day, totaling about 10 hours per week.
