Poker Hand Analysis: Can You Fold a Straight on the River?
In a recent poker tournament, Anatoly Zyrin and Pavel Pleshuv found themselves in a critical hand. The situation began with Anatoly Zyrin raising to 400 from UTG, an unknown Asian player reraising to 1,500, and Pavel Pleshuv calling with 8c 8d from the BB.
On the flop 9s 8h 5s, the Asian player bet 2,200, Pavel reraised to 5,800, and the Asian player called. The turn brought 7c, and Pavel bet 6,500, prompting the Asian player to go all-in.
In another hand, Anatoly Zyrin defended the BB with 5d 3d against a raise from the Asian player. On the flop Ah 4d 2h, Anatoly checked, the Asian player bet 1,200, and Anatoly called. The turn 2d saw Anatoly bet 4,500, and the Asian player called. On the river 9s, Anatoly bet 13,500, and the Asian player pushed all-in for 38,500.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
