Poker Ruling: Judge Declares It a Game of Skill, Not Chance
A judge in the district of New York has ruled that poker is a game of skill, not chance. This decision has significant implications for the ongoing legal debates surrounding poker in the United States. Lawrence DiCristina, who was accused of organizing illegal poker games in a New York City location, cannot be judged under the Illegal Gambling Business Act (IGBA) due to this ruling.
In other poker news, Dan Smith won the Super High Roller of 50,000€ buy-in at the EPT Barcelona, securing his position as the Player of the Year according to the Global Poker Index (GPI). This victory dethroned the previous leader, Marvin Rettenmaier. In Spain, Carlos Mortensen leads the national rankings, followed by Juanma Pastor and Adriá Balaguer “chojjasd”.
The GPI classification, which includes the last three years, is still led by Jason Mercier and Bertrand Grospellier “ElkY”.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
