Phil Ivey's Epic Bluff Catch: How He Turned the Tables on Christoph Vogelsang

The $200,000 buy-in Coin Rivet Invitational at Triton Cypress in September 2022 had a $23 million prize pool with $5.5 million guaranteed to the winner.

During the second day of the event, Phil Ivey and Christoph Vogelsang were involved in a notable hand. Ivey, sitting with 10d-6d, raised to 13,000 chips and was called by Ben Heath (5s-5d) and Vogelsang (7c-6c).

The flop of 10c-8c-3d gave Ivey top pair and Vogelsang a straight flush draw. On the turn (8h), Vogelsang bet 55,000, and Ivey called while Heath mucked his pocket 5s. On the river (Kh), Vogelsang missed his straight flush draw, and his hand was a seven-high. Vogelsang put Ivey all-in for 121,000, and Ivey caught the bluff, putting his remaining chips in the pot, and scooped a massive pot of 444,000.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
