Phil Ivey Loses Big in US Court Battle: Poker News Roundup
In a significant legal development, Phil Ivey has lost a major court battle in the United States. In October, a court in New Jersey ruled that Phil Ivey's $9.6 million winnings from card sorting at Borgata Casino were illegal. The court ordered Ivey to return $9.6 million and $504,000 won in craps, but did not require him to pay the casino's VIP service costs.
Meanwhile, poker players William Davis and John Nevmerzhitsky from California successfully sued Iowa police for confiscating $100,200 in cash. The players had been pulled over for a minor traffic violation and, despite having medical marijuana permits, the police used the presence of a small amount of marijuana as an excuse to confiscate their cash. The players eventually won their case and were awarded $90,000 of their confiscated money back, plus an additional $60,000 for emotional distress.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
