Phil Helmuth Reveals the Untold Story of Ultimate Bet
Phil Helmuth, a renowned poker player, has shared his insights into the history of Ultimate Bet, a once-prominent online poker room. In September 1998, Helmuth and David "Pork Chop" White attempted to create their own poker room. However, their venture failed due to a lack of control over programmers and mismanagement.
In April 2000, Greg Pearson approached Helmuth with a proposal to collaborate on a poker room. Helmuth invested $60,000 in ieLogic, the company developing the software for the poker room. ieLogic signed a contract with eWorld, the owner and operator of Ultimate Bet, in September 2000. The poker room struggled financially for the first few years, with Greg Pearson taking on significant debt.
A television report on Travel Channel in April 2003 brought a massive influx of new users to Ultimate Bet, causing server issues. The influx was so significant that the servers could not handle the load, leading to frequent crashes and a overwhelmed support service.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
