Phil Hellmuth Triumphs Over Nick Wright in High Stakes Duel III
Phil Hellmuth has defeated Nick Wright in the first round of High Stakes Duel III, adding another win to his impressive streak in this format. Hellmuth, a 15-time WSOP bracelet winner, has now won back-to-back matches against Antonio Esfandiari and Daniel Negreanu.
The match took place in the PokerGO studio at the Aria Casino with a $50,000 buy-in. Nick Wright, although not a professional poker player, has significant cash game experience. There was a brief disagreement before the game started regarding the blind levels, with Hellmuth insisting on 30-minute levels as previously agreed.
The five and a half hour match saw Hellmuth gradually increasing his advantage. After the first two hours, Hellmuth turned around his luck and began to dominate, providing viewers with an entertaining showdown. All eyes are now on Nick Wright to see if he will challenge Phil Hellmuth for the double-or-quits round two, which would require a $100,000 buy-in.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
