Phil Galfond Challenges Poker Trainers to High-Stakes Matches
In late November, Phil Galfond issued a challenge to poker trainers and high rollers, inviting them to a series of high-stakes matches. This move aims to prove that both he and his room Run It Once are still significant players in the poker community.
Bill Perkins has accepted the challenge and will play against Phil Galfond in a 50,000-hand match at a $100/$200 limit in PLO. If Bill Perkins wins, Phil Galfond will add $800,000 to the pot, and if he loses, Perkins will pay $200,000. The match will end early if either participant reaches a $400,000 loss.
Fernando JNandez87 Habegger will also participate in the trainer challenge against Phil Galfond. The match will consist of 50,000 hands at a $100/$200 limit in PLO, with Phil Galfond putting up $1,000,000 and Fernando JNandez87 Habegger $200,000 in the side bet. Phil Galfond plans to conduct six head-to-head battles, aiming to finish all matches by May.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
