California Tax Expert Peter Placey Wins U.S. Poker Open Event No. 5
Peter Placey, a California property tax expert, won Event No. 5 of the 2026 U.S. Poker Open, earning $224,000 and 480 Card Player Player of the Year points. The event began on April 15, 2026, and Placey's victory came against a strong field of poker professionals.
Placey's opponents at the final table included Brandon Wilson, Justin Zaki, Cherish Andrews, Qinghai Pan, and Anil Jivani. Placey's first PGT title was his second career cash inside the PGT studio. His previous PGT cash was in event no. 5 at the 2022 U.S. Poker Open, which was an identical $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. This $224,000 score represents the second-largest live tournament result of Placey’s career. He finished 35th in the 2014 World Series of Poker main event, earning $230,487.
Cherish Andrews finished in sixth place, earning $40,000 and 40 PGT points. Justin Zaki finished in fifth place, earning $56,000 and 56 PGT points. Brandon Wilson finished in fourth place, earning $76,000 and 76 PGT points. Anil Jivani finished in third place, earning $104,000 and 104 PGT points. Qinghai Pan finished in second place, earning $144,000 and 144 PGT points.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
