Super High Roller Event at PCA 2012: Drama and High Stakes
The 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) Super High Roller event attracted 38 participants, with Evgeniy Kachalov emerging as the champion in the previous year's event, securing $1,500,000.
This year, the tournament adopted a 'second chance' format, allowing players to add $100,000 to the prize pool. Only two players, Jonathan Duhamel and Bill Perkins, took advantage of this option. Duhamel, the 2010 World Champion, faced personal challenges, including a home invasion where his championship bracelet was stolen. His friend Daniel Negreanu playfully commented on the incident, noting their similar taste in partners.
Duhamel finished the first day with the fourth-largest stack of 729,000 chips, while Perkins was eliminated early. Notable players like Japanese millionaire Masa Kagawa and Hungarian oligarch Sandor Demyan also failed to advance. Evgeniy Kachalov, the defending champion, struggled and ended the day with 174,000 chips, below the average. Victor Bloom led the first day with 875,000 chips, followed by Erik Seidel with 753,000.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
