Patrick Antonius: The Best Defense is Still a Good Offense
Patrick Antonius, a seasoned poker player, has had his share of ups and downs in his career. In 2009, he won over $9 million in high-stakes games on Full Tilt. However, 2010 started on a rough note for Antonius. By mid-March 2010, he had lost $3.6 million in online poker. Despite this significant loss, Antonius was able to recover $3.2 million from March to May 2010.
Antonius believes that high-stakes poker players need to win more in good days than they lose in bad days to show profit over the long term. He emphasizes the importance of resilience and continuous learning in poker. Antonius claims he learned poker by himself and never had any formal teachers. He considers live poker to be very demanding and exhausting, requiring constant focus and concentration.
Antonius also shares his views on the poker world. He believes that many players who succeed in poker for a short period cannot maintain their success in the long term. Young players often struggle with downswings due to overconfidence, leading to poor decisions and eventual failure. Antonius disagrees with the notion that the skill difference between high-stakes PLO players is minimal, asserting that the gap is significant and that players at higher limits are much more skilled.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
