Israeli Soccer Star Omer Dahan Arrested in Match-Fixing Scandal
Omer Dahan, a member of the top-flight team Maccabi Haifa, was arrested by Lahav 433’s Sports Gambling and Bribery Division. Dahan was detained as part of a series of arrests arising from an investigation into his ties to an alleged criminal gang from Migdal HaEmek. The Israel Football Association (IFA) asked a disciplinary court to suspend Dahan for at least 60 days, citing the “investigation being conducted against the suspect.”
Upon release, Dahan denied the charges in an Instagram post, stating he never harmed any team he played for. The Israeli Premier League, which includes Maccabi Haifa, is generally ranked outside the top 10 professional leagues around the world. Most forms of gambling, both land-based and online, are illegal in Israel. The Israel Sports Betting Board (ISBB) has the exclusive right to organize and regulate sports betting in Israel, and it offers limited wagering options.
The investigation into Omer Dahan comes amidst a growing trend of gambling scandals in sports, both in the U.S. and internationally. This includes recent controversies involving professional and college teams in the U.S., as well as a major match-fixing operation in Spain.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
