New Jersey's online gambling revenue surged by 129% in May 2020, reaching $85.9 million, a significant increase from the same period in 2019. This surge was driven by the closure of physical casinos due to the pandemic, which forced players to shift online.
Online sports betting also contributed to the total revenue, generating $9.9 million. When combined with other online gambling activities, the total revenue for online operators in New Jersey reached nearly $96 million.
Online poker rooms in New Jersey collected $4.5 million in rake, marking a 151% increase from the same period in 2019. This significant growth in online gambling has led to a substantial increase in tax revenue, with New Jersey collecting over $14 million from online gambling in May 2020. However, offline casino revenue decreased by 65.4% compared to the same period in 2019, highlighting the impact of the pandemic on traditional gambling establishments.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
