Nevada Legalizes Public Cannabis Consumption Lounges
Nevada has made history by becoming one of the first states to legalize public cannabis consumption in designated lounges. This groundbreaking move comes just in time for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2021, which is set to begin soon.
Nevada legalized recreational cannabis use in January 2017, and now, it allows individuals to purchase an ounce of cannabis or one eighth of an ounce of cannabis resin. The new law, effective from October 1st, permits recreational smoking lounges for public cannabis consumption. These lounges must be located at least 1,500 feet away from any casino, ensuring that cannabis consumption does not interfere with gambling activities.
This change is expected to create a more relaxed atmosphere during the WSOP, as many players are from a generation where cannabis use has been normalized. However, it is important to note that consuming cannabis in hotel rooms is still illegal and can lead to trouble if caught.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
