Mobile Poker Apps Thrive During Pandemic: GipsyTeam Reports Growth

Mobile poker applications have experienced a surge in popularity, with the number of players continuing to grow since the post-holiday season. This trend is beneficial not only for cash game players but also for tournament players, who can now compete for larger prizes with accessible buy-ins in mobile apps.

GipsyTeam initially offered games in 7 clubs in December 2018. By April 2020, the games were available in 23 clubs across three applications: PPPoker, UPoker. Over this period, many issues present in PokerMaster and its Asian counterparts have been resolved. The standard has shifted to a user-friendly English interface, eliminating the need for players to mimic Chinese residents or take unfavorable insurance options. Additionally, timplay tracking has become more efficient, benefiting both large alliances and app developers.

The main sources of growth for mobile poker apps are players from Latin America, particularly Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador. These countries contribute significantly to the nighttime and early morning traffic in Moscow. Additionally, large alliances from the USA attract players from American clubs and home games, including states where legal poker play is not possible. In Asia, the most active players are from the Philippines, Malaysia, India, and Thailand, especially on Upoker. In Europe, mobile poker apps are less popular due to the availability of legal poker rooms, both international and local. Russia and the CIS region are exceptions, where legal play is limited to gaming zones, and players have fewer options.
