Mikhail Sёmin: 'I Lost Two Key Hands and Was Eliminated from the Tournament'
Mikhail Sёmin, a seasoned poker player, recently found himself on the losing end of two key hands during the final table of the Stud Championship. In an interview, he discussed his elimination from the tournament, which occurred after losing two hands worth 300,000 each, and a coin flip.
In the first key hand, Sёmin had 6x and 7x of the same suit, and an open 6, while his opponent, Gaistings, had 3x 3x 9x. Sёmin mentioned that Gaistings did not shuffle his cards before showing down, making it easy to see his starting hand. This allowed Sёmin to make an informed decision and ultimately lose the hand.
In the second key hand, Sёmin had two aces with a queen, while his opponent, Chris George, had two kings. Sёmin mentioned that he was confident in his hand but ultimately lost to George's stronger cards. He also noted that Oksana doubled up eight times in two days, which was mathematically disadvantageous for him. Despite his losses, Sёmin remained philosophical about the outcome, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of poker.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
