Legendary Poker Player Mike Sexton Passes Away at 73
Mike Sexton, a legendary figure in the world of poker, has passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family members. He was 73 years old.
Sexton was known for his extensive work with the World Poker Tour (WPT). He became a professional poker player in 1977, a decision he made after realizing that poker was more lucrative than his sales job. Sexton moved to Las Vegas in January 1985, a city that became his home for the rest of his life.
Throughout his career, Sexton achieved numerous milestones. He won his only WSOP bracelet in 1989 in a stud hi-lo tournament. His first appearance in the WSOP Main Event was in 1991, where he finished 24th out of 214 players. Sexton also organized the Tournament of Champions in 1998, an event that became a significant part of the poker calendar. In 2000, he was involved in the creation of PartyPoker, one of the earliest online poker platforms.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
