Mike Matuosov: The Poker Legend with a Colorful History
Mike Matuosov, a 49-year-old former dealer from Las Vegas who turned professional in the early 90s, has had a career filled with both triumphs and challenges. He has won four bracelets at the World Series of Poker and was the main backer of Sottie Nguyen, the winner of the 1999 Main Event.
However, Matuosov's journey has not been without its setbacks. He lost part of his bankroll playing against superusers on Ultimate Bet and the rest betting on sports. Additionally, he served time in an American prison.
Despite these challenges, Matuosov is known for his emotional outbursts during poker games and his outspoken political views on Twitter. He has also criticized the current state of high roller tournaments, stating that players are only playing for 10% of the pot. Some of his most memorable poker moments include playing against notable figures such as Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Scott Lazar, Sean Deeb, Eric Seidel, and Ed Foster.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
