Mark Scheinberg: The Billionaire Behind PokerStars and Beyond

Mark Scheinberg, born on December 27, 1973, in Israel, is a billionaire businessman known for co-founding PokerStars. Alongside his father, Isa Scheinberg, Mark launched PokerStars in 2001, which quickly became one of the largest online gaming companies with over 50 million users.

Under Mark's leadership as CEO, PokerStars saw tremendous success. By 2010, the company was generating approximately $500 million in annual profit from $1.4 billion in revenue. In 2012, PokerStars acquired Full Tilt Poker for $731 million, further expanding its dominance in the online poker industry.

In June 2014, Amaya Inc, now known as The Stars Group, acquired PokerStars and its parent company for $4.9 billion in cash. Following the sale, Mark Scheinberg left the PokerStars group as a billionaire. His investment firm, Mohari Hospitality, has since made significant real estate investments. In 2017, Mohari paid €225 million for a 50% share in the Centro project in Madrid, Spain. Additionally, Mohari's Canadian affiliate purchased the Thompson Toronto 1 hotel in Toronto, Ontario. Mark is also a co-owner of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection company, which offers luxury vacations on custom-built yachts.

Beyond his business ventures, Mark Scheinberg is actively involved in philanthropy. In March 2020, he established the Scheinberg Relief Fund to support charities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on areas such as medical equipment, masks, animal care, the elderly, and food assistance. With an estimated net worth of $5 billion, Mark Scheinberg continues to make a significant impact both in the business world and through his charitable efforts.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
