Maria Konnikova's WSOP Journey: 20 Years of Poker Passion and Strategy
Maria Konnikova has been playing poker for 20 years and has participated in her 17th WSOP Main Event. She evaluates her performance daily during multi-day poker series, focusing on psychological state, concentration, and technical level.
Konnikova takes a day off when her performance scores drop, ensuring she always sees progress in the next session. She enjoys poker the most when she is having fun and believes in evaluating her own decisions at the poker table, ignoring others' opinions.
During the WSOP, Konnikova stopped using social media to avoid psychological pressure. She felt both excitement and unease upon reaching the final table, ready for both winning and losing the tournament. Konnikova believes that errors are inevitable in poker and intentionally sought out complex situations to get used to them. She became the first woman to reach the final table of the WSOP Main Event in the 21st century, treating the day before the final table as another day of the main event without cards. She spent the morning before the final table exercising and relaxing, and enjoyed playing against Michael Mizrahi despite the challenge. Konnikova advises poker players to ignore comments from strangers and not build their identity around poker.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
