Macau Hosts $260,000 High-Stakes Poker Tournament

A high-stakes poker tournament with a prize pool of approximately $260,000 USD was held in Macau. The event was announced by Tom Hall on the 2+2 forum, where he detailed the tournament's structure and attracted significant interest from the poker community.

The tournament had a starting stack of 100,000 and blinds starting at 500/500. It was limited to 80 participants, and the organizers decided to conduct the tournament in a single day to avoid tiring the Chinese businessmen who were expected to participate. The total prize pool of the tournament was HK$182,360,000, which is approximately $23,000,000 USD, making it one of the largest prize pools in poker history.

Despite the high stakes and the impressive prize pool, the tournament faced some challenges. Tom Dwan, one of the top players expected to participate, did not appear in the tournament due to losing his passport and getting stuck in Hong Kong. The tournament was covered live by PokerAce and Pokerportal.asia, but many users on the 2+2 forum criticized the quality of the broadcast. Rebuys were allowed during the first four levels, and 21 players took advantage of this option. The first place prize was $6,465,746, with the second and third place prizes being $4,349,735 and $3,291,601 respectively.
